How will future genomic discoveries and technologies
impact your life?
In the wake the human genome project completed in 2003, an evolving
series of genomic technologies will become available over the next
few years. Consumers will have the potential to learn of their disease
susceptibility as well as have information on their disease risks
in their medical records. This web site will assist users in considering
questions such as “Is DNA destiny?” and "What are
the considerations I should review in making a decision to have
or not to have a gene-based test?"
elsi
is a project to address this need. The goal of the project is to
produce and evaluate an on-line learning module for high school
students on the impact of new genomic technologies on their lives.
The module will assist students in considering the implications
of new genomic advances on their health and privacy. Under the project
design, expert panels of scientists, ethicists and educators have
convened to recommend the content for the web site you are about
to explore.
Are you ready? Let's start with the background. |
